Meet Head Tennis Coach Josh Hedrick

When did you start playing tennis?

I picked up a racket for the first time when I was probably about 5 or 6 just hitting with my dad. It wasn’t until I was about 13 years old did I start pursuing tennis as a competitive endeavor.

What is it that you love about the sport?

What I love most is the mentality of the sport. You need to remain focused and confident in your abilities or you will make a mistake. There is no time for hesitation during a point. Everything comes down to split-second decisions which make or break the point.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I have this idea that controlling the weather would be an awesome superpower, more specifically being able to control lightning. I just think lightning is a very cool natural phenomenon.

What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

The last movie I saw in the theatre was Spiderman Far From Home. I love going to the movies. My wife, not so much. She likes to fall asleep during movies, yes, even in the theatre, haha.

What was your first job?

My first paying job was making cold calls for a commercial collection agency when I was 16. I am glad to be teaching tennis instead!

If there was a movie made about you, which celebrity would play you?

I was not sure about this one so I asked my wife and she said Jason Momoa. I will count that as a win.

Where is your favorite vacation location?

We went to an island called Dominica for our honeymoon and it was beautiful. We slept in tree houses and hiked to breathtaking waterfalls pretty much every day. I would love to go back soon.

What is your favorite thing about coaching tennis at Mount Sequoyah?

I just love working with the kids and enjoy the opportunity to teach them a game they can take with them for the rest of there lives. It is a lot of fun to learn about their interests and talk with the kids because, in all honesty, I am just a big kid at heart and like to have fun.

Josh works with fellow tennis coach Rob Hodous to teach tennis to kids and adults of all ages.  Learn more about the Mount Sequoyah Tennis Academy
